#RecordOfTheDay “Fadjamou” by Oumou Sangaré

Up until yesterday’s post we’ve been sharing records from the 80s on back so why not continue on the new music wave. Here we have a 2017 release from Mali’s Oumou Sangaré, who through her music and being an entrepreneur is an outspoken advocate for women’s rights. Here’s one my favorites tracks from this LP, which forges a perfect blend between traditional and modern sounds to get you moving. I highly recommend picking this one up

#RecordOfTheDay “If I Was President” by Las Cafeteras

It’s President’s Day here in the US and rather fume over how our current and past presidents have let us down time and time again let’s do some visioning and imagine what you or I would do if we running the White Houes. No better record for this one by Las Cafeteras who offer what they would, which I’m 100% with.

#RecordOfTheDay “Can’t Take Another World War” by Clint Eastwood & General Saint

We got these two man-children dictators acting like they ain’t scared to start World War III, while the rest of us are just trying to see Black Panther so we can actually imagine what some non-colonial, self-determination of African people who save the world looks like. Which brings me to this 1981 record from Clint Eastwood & General Saint with their version of hey can we not do this please?

#RecordOfTheDay “L’argent Et La Femme” by Bumba Massa

Like peanut butter and jelly, Saturdays and soukous music is the perfect pairing that never gets old. When the sun is out, blue sky above, everyone at the parks a record like this from Bumba Massa is the vibe you can’t go wrong with.

#RecordOfTheDay “Carnaval” by Les Gypsies De Petion-Ville

To wrap up carnaval week I was tempted to choose something Brazilian, but I feel like that music is easy to enough to find now and I just don’t think nearly enough recognition has been given to the wealth of Haitian carnaval music. So once more here’s yet another one of Robert Martino numerous bands, Les Gypsies De Petion-Ville who in 1973 released this LP with a bonus 7″ containing this frenetic carnaval tune .

#RecordOfTheDay “Carnaval En Margarita” by Los Topotopos

Day 4 of Carnaval and I could really use some more island time. Have you ever visited the island off the coast of Venezuela called Margarita? I only know it through photos of beautiful beaches and this gaita caranaval record by Los Topotopos, which is really all I need to convince me to visit one day.

#RecordOfTheDay “Carnaval 83” by Scorpio

Day 3 of carnaval and time to jump over to Haiti because there’s no way we can do ever look past the amazing wealth of incredible carnaval kompa music that this historically important island has blessed us with. Get ready because this record by Robert Martino’s Scorpio will have you jumping and going wild from the start then winds you down perfectly.
